Ugh...so Manchester didn't work out....this is how things played out...
Amsterdam-Liverpool-Huddersfield...Original plan was to be in Manchester by 10am,
in actuality it was Liverpool by 5:30pm, Huddersfield by 8:45pm, missed my fish and chips, Was tired, hungry, moderately grumpy, but finally reached! Huddersfield,UK pop. 146,234
Huddersfield is surrounded by the rolling hills of England, everywhere you look you can see the countryside with a few castles in between. The houses here are very old but still standing. My cousin's house (Where I am now) was originally built in 1825.
This makes up for all the traveling slow downs...Seeing family. Once again I felt like I was home,
Had fish and chips and bits (the batter run off) today though...the best ever!! On the way back I saw a man creating a scultptre out of marble...it was mind blowing...he also has done wore for the world famous madame toussoude wax museum in Amsterdam....
I really see what the downturn in the economy has done to a small town like this, most of the shops I remember from last time, have been shut down and the spots are for lease and or rent.
boarded up windows, and closing out sales. Only the very strong businesses have survived. It's not a ghost town, just not as vibrant as before but I love it. Weather is cool and gloomy..but I'm having a bit of home right now...
One strange thing I need to mention is the strangest flavor of potato chips I've ever seen or imagined in my wildest dreams......Cajun Squirrel!?...no I didn't try it yet..but I just might....
got a few more days here, then off to Barcelona.
